Where Are They Now: Mary Gomez
What have you been doing since we filmed the episode of THE HERO EFFECT? Many things, including preparing myself through continued education. I am in the process of expanding my business to give work to young people on the way to school or who are already in school.
What changes have occurred in Little J’s life since we were at Treehouse? Little JJ is good; he’s in a pre-adoptive home together with his sister. I continue in communication with them. Thank God!!!!
What made you want to be a foster parent? I felt responsible for every child around me….. I just wanted to protect them and take care of them. I grew up in a family with many values and helping others was always a priority
What has been the most challenging part about being a foster parent? I have an intensive care license, so children always come to me with more needs than others. Therefore the first months are very difficult; because you only have love to give but they need much more than that. I would like to have a magic bar and take away all their suffering, but it doesn’t work that way. It’s a process.
What has been the most rewarding part about being a foster parent? When I’m able to stabilize them so they can enjoy more of being kid or teenager (because they arrive here in bad shape)….. When they tell me how important I am to them….When they say thank you for loving me. When they do better and better…..It’s definitely A PAYBACK ❤️
